CWRTWM September 2016 Membership Meeting
Tue, SEP 13, 2016, 06:30pm

*** Note program and special location ***

Location:  Plaza Library, 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO
(highrise office building with library on the ground floor and parking adjacent to the building.)

Program:  The Round Table would like to alter our usual meeting night and place in order to hear a special program sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation and the Truman Library Institute.  Jonathan Earle will be speaking about his new book Electing Abraham Lincoln: The Revolution of 1860.  Jonathan is the dean of the Honors College at Louisiana State University.

There is a reception preceding the program at 6:00 p.m.

These programs are well attended so it’s imperative that you call the library to reserve a seat.  Please call 816- 701-3407 or go to the Library website at www.kclibrary.org.  It’s suggested you try to arrive by about 6:00 p.m. to procure a seat.

The Library describes the program as follows: “This year’s election stakes are high, as always.  But perhaps no presidential vote in U.S. history was more consequential than that of 1860.  The national roiled over the issue of slavery.  Abraham Lincoln captured the Republican nomination over New York Sen. William Seward and then took on the divided Democratic party.  His win in November – with less than 40% of the popular vote – prompted the immediate secession of South Carolina, roused the rest of the South, and ushered in the Civil War.”

The Round Table is offering transportation to those who may not want to drive themselves to the Country Club Plaza area for this program.  Volunteer drivers are Terry Chronister, Beverly Shaw, Mike Calvert from the Independence area, and Charles Childs from the northland.  Call Beverly Shaw at 816-225-7944 to schedule a ride.
Location  Plaza Library, 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO
