Topeka celebrates many events and activities such as the reenactment of the July 4, 1856 Dispersal of the Free State Legislature and open houses at local historic sites. This is the 160th anniversary of the Topeka Legislature’s first meeting and its very dramatic visit by Col. E.V. Sumner and the U.S. Cavalry. Visit with the 3rd Kansas, Light Artillery Battery B and the Lecompton Reenactors.
