Lunch ‘n Learn – The Hiram Young School Building

Bring your sandwich and enjoy a dessert and drink provided by the City of Independence.


Truman Presidential Library and Museum, Whistlestop Room. Enter at the “Meetings and Events Entrance” on the east side adjacent to Visitors Parking Lot.


Carla Simpson, Development Director for the Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity, will present a brief history and update on future plans for the historic Hiram Young School which was a K-8 Elementary School for African American children in Independence, MO. Built in 1934 the building stands at 501 North Dodgion Street. Learn how this historic building will be preserved and repurposed to once again serve the community.
