Dedication of Lake Lotawana Historical Marker
Sat, SEP 15, 2018, 10:30am

Unveiling of historical marker erected by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas City and Gary L. Hicks and wife Louise Willig Hicks (niece of Louise Willig Rehn).  Remarks by representatives of the NSKKC and Lake Lotawana, including the Mayor.

Refreshments will be served.

The marker says in part, “Here in the Valley of the “Sni”, Lake Lotawana is greater Kansas City’s premier residential lake community.  Located in Jackson County, it’s one of Missouri’s largest such developments.  This region was considered a confederate stronghold in the Civil War.  Quantrill, the James Gang, and the Younger brothers are within its lore.  Named for the mythical “Princess Lotawana”, the lakes development contains over 7,200 total acres, with approximately 600 acres of surface water, 27 miles of shoreline, and over 2,200 platted lake sites.  Take Colbern Road to Lake Lotawana Road.  Go ¾ mile past the City Hall and Fire Protection District facility to the Lake Lotawana Park.  Parking is shared with the Maintenance Bldg.
